Quick Tasty Ice Cream Treat

My son found this quick ice cream recipe treat that took little or no time to make.  The recipe started with a carton of ice cream softened, vanilla wafers crushed with butter which was layered on the bottom of the pan first.  We put the softened ice cream on top of the vanilla wafers and then put nuts on top of the ice cream.  We alternated this method two times and at the end we topped it off with nuts, sprinkles and chocolate.  Of course it is up to your imagination what will taste good as you top your treat off.  The longest part was the wait for the ice cream to harden back up in the freezer so that we could enjoy eating what we created.   I have to admit, I had doubts at first but I think I actually love this recipe.  I must say very tasty and a great kid treat.  I thought I would share since it really was a nice quick tasty treat.

Make Your Baking Dishes and Pots Sparkle Again

burnt-panHave you ever burnt a pot or a baking dish?  If you cook, then I am sure that we have all burnt a pot or had baking spots that won’t easily remove from your cookware.

The trick in removing excess burned on ingredients from your glass baking dishes and pots is to spray them with oven cleaner and let sit in your sink.  After about 30 minutes, wipe clean.  A very simple remedy which requires very little elbow grease.  Try it and see how amazed you will be at how clean your cookware will be and may I remind you that the best part is that it requires very little scrubbing.

Leftover Wine…

Have you ever hosted an event and ended up with leftover wine?  Well, there is a way for you to not waste what you have in leftover opened wine.  Instead of throwing the leftover opened wine away after a couple of days, you could save calories by using it to sauté versus using butter or oil.

Take the leftover wine and freeze it in ice cube trays and pop out what you need when cooking.  Have fun trying this out!1406p139-ice-trays-m downtonabbey

Shrimp Fettuccine With Spinach and Parmesan

So for 2016 I am trying to cook recipes that I have not tried before.  I have lots of cookbooks including recipes that I have collected over the years but have never actually found the time to try my recipe collection out.  Here is my first test recipe and I think it was a good choice.

My family including myself did in fact enjoy it and it was what I would consider a very simple recipe that did not require a lot of time.  I added mushrooms to this recipe which I thought was a great addition.

Here is a picture of the finished meal… Shrimp Fettuccine with Spinach and Parmesan and below the picture is the recipe just in case anyone is interested in trying it.

Shrimp-Fettuccine

8 ounces uncooked fettuccine

2 tablespoon butter

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced

10 ounces medium shrimp, peeled and deveined

3/8 teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

6 ounces fresh baby spinach

1 ¼ ounces Parmesan cheese, shaved

  1.  Cook pasta according to package directions, omitting salt and fat.
  2. Melt butter and oil in a large skillet over medium heat.  Add garlic to pan; cook 1 minute.  Remove garlic from pan with a slotted spoon; place in a small bowl.  Increase heat to medium-high.  Add shrimp, salt, and pepper to pan; cook 4 minutes or until shrimp are done, stirring occasionally.  Add pasta, spinach, and garlic to pan; cook 1 minute or until spinach wilts, tossing to coat.  Sprinkle with cheese.

Do you have a fat wallet?

20160104_194553

Almost everyday a company is offering a new card that is supposed to help you save money and if you are like me, you don’t want to miss one deal.   My wallet has gotten so fat from all of the loyalty cards that I have stuffed in it that I have found myself sometimes looking for a bigger wallet.  Well there is a solution for reducing the amount of loyalty cards you carry around in your wallet and it is called the CardStar app.

The Cardstar App will lighten your wallet by moving your plastic loyalty cards, rewards and membership cards to your phone so you never miss out on a reward, discount or deal again.

Check out the Cardstar App at http://www.cardstar.com for additional details and see if it is a good fit for you.

Baking Soda Freshness

Baking SodaIf you are like me, you only use baking soda when you are going to cook something that calls for this ingredient.  Well in order for me to keep from choking anybody, I always test my baking soda for freshness by pouring 1/2 teaspoon vinegar or lemon juice over the baking soda.  If it does not fizz, then you know it is too old to be effective.  Throw it down the drain and purchase some more.

Cake Tips

 cake

Evening ladies…

Here are some nice cake baking tips that will come in hand:

  • When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead.  This will prevent no flour mess on the outside of the cake.
  • For best results in cake baking, let your eggs, butter, and milk reach room temperature before mixing.

I alway try to do these quick little tips when I am baking.  The exception is when I am in a rush which then I guess you can say that I was unprepared and did not plan my time accordingly.

If anyone has any other quick baking tips, by all means SHARE!
