Q: Where were you born and raised?

A: I was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, but we moved around a lot, spending time in Georgia and Texas until I was 12 when we finally settled in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Q: How would you describe your personality?

A: I would describe myself as a fun-loving, awkward nerd who likes to laugh.  I am an incurable optimist, a self-improvement junkie and VERY goal oriented.  Other people seem to see me as easy-going, laidback and much more confident than I perceive myself.

Q: How would you describe your sense of humor?

A: Definitely slapstick!  I love anything with Chevy Chase, people falling down, or just plain silly.  Tommy Boy and Old School are classic films for me.

Q: How do you define success?

A:  I think everybody defines success a little differently.  I never had any desire to be rich and famous and I never really felt that money would define success for me.  Honestly, I think success comes from knowing exactly what you want to do and then doing it.  And if you happen to get paid for doing what you love, I can think of no greater success than that.  I think it is also important to have a clear conscience and compassion for your fellow man.

Q: Describe one of your GUTS moments.

A: One of my biggest GUTS moments was when I graduated college with my Meteorology degree.  I was always enamored and enchanted with the weather as a child.  When I got older, I worked but I was pretty much directionless in terms of my dreams and aspirations.  I considered going to school for meteorology, but I when I looked up the requirements for the degree, I was very intimidated by the math and science and gave up.  Eventually, when I was in my early 30’s, I somehow gained focus and ambition and realized that it was now or never.  I summoned the courage and applied to the meteorology program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  My first class had me totally hooked.  Then I found out I was pregnant with my first child.  It was delightful, but a little bit unexpected and it required that I tweak my plan a little bit.  I wasn’t about to let that deter me from my ultimate goal.  So, I had my first child and continuted with my studies, making my way through all of the math and physics, enlisting the help of tutors and classmates when necessary and taking exams with eyes bleary from the sleepless nights of a newborn.  After taking so many different math and science classes, I eventually go to the point where I loved it!  I had never had such focus and determination as when I was in school.  There were a lot of times of self-doubt throughout the whole process, but my family was so very supportive and kept me focused.  When I graduated, cum laude, in 2009 I had 2 children.  Those were 4 very tough, but very fulfilling years in my life.

Q: Name one of your pet peeves.

A: This probably sounds crazy, but I hate when people talk about playing the lottery and how they like to play the lottery when the jackpot isn’t as big because they figure that their odds of winning are better since not as many people are playing.  This is positively false!  Your odds of hitting the winning numbers are the same EVERY, SINGLE TIME!  You are playing against the numbers, not other people.  But I digress….

Q: What is one thing you hope to accomplish in life?

A: I really hope that years from now when I look back on my life, I can say that I don’t have any regret.  I can’t imagine living your life for years and years only to end up realizing that you didn’t actually “do” anything.  I want to try as many things as I can, travel to as many places, always be kind and raise my kids to do the right thing.  I think if I can accomplish that, I shouldn’t have too much to regret.

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?

A: Spare time is in really short supply with two young children, but I do enjoy summer days at the pool with them.  If I happen to have a couple of hours to myself, one of my favorite indulgences is to go to a bookstore, get a nice hot cup of tea and read whatever my heart desires.

Q: What do you wish you could do more of in life?

A: I wish I could travel more.  It is difficult when you do have little ones and when money isn’t in unlimited supply.

Q: What causes you anxiety?

A: There are a lot of days where I question myself incessantly about whether or not I am doing all of the right things for my kids.  My old boss, Maureen, told me when I just had my daughter that I would always do it.  She said that if I hugged and kissed them too much then I would question whether I was too affectionate and not allowing them the opportunity for discomfort and if I allowed them discomfort regularly, I would question myself about being to hard on them.  And she couldn’t have been more right.  I do this to myself almost daily.  I wish there was an instruction manual for kids. My son was recently diagnosed with Asperger’s and learning how to work with him is a daily learning experience.

Q: What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

A: Chocolate covered pretzel ice cream from Maggie Moo’s.
