About Us

Guts founders 1

 May 18, 2012

One sultry May evening in South Carolina, the three of us were out celebrating the retirement of our boss and mentor, Maureen.

As we sat and discussed our respective futures (Maureen’s being a little more definitive than the rest of us) the conversation shifted to how we were all struggling to garner some sense of accomplishment while also keeping up the balance between careers, family and personal lives. Not to mention we would all like to have some fun once in a while.  Make no mistake, we all feel very fortunate to have good jobs and a great employer. We just wanted something of our own to fulfill our need to somehow make a difference in this world.

As we all fantasized about alternate, much less stressful jobs, Floretha and Jennifer both mentioned starting a blog.  Amy figured she could do it , too.  Somehow starting a blog sounded more feasible than Chick-Fil-A cow, Zumba instructor or professional wine taster.  We initially didn’t have any real focus but we were excited about the prospect of doing something as a fun, creative outlet.

We started weekly lunches together and after several conversations, our blog started to take shape. What we kept coming coming back to was the desire to connect with girls like us. We really liked the idea of bringing together a network of girls who support each other, bounce ideas off each other and push each other to be more than we thought we could be.

It wasn’t long into our Friday lunch meetings that GUTS was born.  We are Girlfriends United To Succeed.  We now have a mission and a purpose -to achieve more for ourselves and to encourage and inspire others to do the same and to create a network of girlfriends that will inspire, encourage and support each other.

We didn’t know it at the time, but it turned out that getting together to celebrate Maureen’s retirement would provide us the very inspiration and direction that we all so desperately wanted and needed.

As you browse the pages of this blog, we are hopeful that you can relate to one of us or all of us and we look forward to hearing from you as we expand our network of girlfriends and unite together to succeed.  No GUTS, no glory!

Respectfully,

Jennifer, Floretha and Amy
